The Georgia Bulldogs enter the 2025 season with familiar championship expectations but plenty of new faces. As Kirby Smart begins his tenth year in Athens, the Bulldogs are breaking in new quarterback Gunner Stockton after Carson Beck's departure to the NFL.
The Stockton Era Begins
Stockton, who made his first career start in the College Football Playoff, will have a full offseason as the QB1 heading into 2025. The young signal-caller will be supported by running back Nate Frazier and should return one of his top receivers in Dillon Bell, while star tight end Oscar Delp seems likely to return for his senior season.
Key Additions and Departures
Georgia has been active in the transfer portal, adding Noah Thomas from Texas A&M and brothers Zachariah and Zion Branch from USC. The receiving corps should be much improved after adding some gifted players via the portal and the 2025 recruiting class.
However, the biggest question mark is the offensive line, where the Bulldogs lost four starters. Defensively, Georgia's defense is littered with 5-star talent and returns a trio of interior defensive linemen — Christen Miller, Jordan Hall and Xzavier McLeod — who have difference-making potential.
Schedule Highlights
The Bulldogs' 2025 season will begin in Athens, Georgia when the Dawgs host the Marshall Thundering Herd on August 30th. The marquee matchups include Alabama playing in Athens for the first time since 2015 on September 27, a road trip to Tennessee, and the annual showdown with Florida in Jacksonville on November 1.
With the Bulldogs undefeated in season openers under Kirby Smart and having not lost a home game in more than five seasons, expectations remain sky-high in Athens. The 2025 season will test whether Smart can navigate a transition year and keep Georgia among college football's elite.
