I keep seeing post after post on social media about the Amazon fire. It’s all such doom and gloom. But did you know that fires are mother natures way to replenish?
During wildfires, the nutrients from dead trees are returned to the soil. The forest floor is exposed to more sunlight, allowing seedlings released by the fire to sprout and grow. Despite the damage that can occur to property and people, good things can come out of forest fires, too.
Forest fires are a natural and necessary part of the ecosystem. Even healthy forests contain dead trees and decaying plant matter; when a fire turns them to ashes, nutrients return to the soil instead of remaining captive in old vegetation.
Years ago I watched a documentary that showed the horrible disaster of a large fire. I was horrified at the sight of animals running from the fire. But then after the fire the documentary show how life returns, restored and replenished. Stronger than before.
So, while fires like the one in the Amazon are terrible, there will be life after the fire. It will not be the end of the world, or even the end of the Amazon.
It is just one more cycle in the great cycle of life.
